Disasters-R-Us

First, the news: Obama cancels/postpones Guam trip ...

How ironic that one environmental disaster, the Gulf oil spill, has led to the cancellation of a trip by the president to hear of Guam's environmental disaster in the making.

Does anyone see the connection between the BP oil spill and a plan to dredge 50 or 70 acres of coral to make a parking space for an aircraft carrier?

This is the second time that Obama has put off this trip. The odds are dropping that he'll ever visit and learn first hand....

I don't think you can watch it from where you're at; but a few days ago, Senator BJ Cruz was on a small television talk show discussing Obama's intended visit to our area. He made a really meaningful comparison between Obama and his relationship with Guam to a dead beat father. He explained that he didn't think Obama should come at all if he didn't "bring a check with him." He said that the US President (at least for Guam) has always been that father who doesn't pay child support, but tells you he loves you in the occasional birthday card, phone call, or random envelope with a little money in it. Then he explained that the visit here was like having that father (who has been a little inattentive the whole time) being invited to the kid's birthday party but showing up when it's almost over and without a present.

I'm not sure how I felt about the comparison just yet, but it's been spinning around in my head since I heard it. What do you think of it?

OMG, that description BJ gave is exactly the way Obama's father treated little Barry! What an eerie coincidence!

The comparison to a dead beat dad shows just how much damage has been done; the dead beat Sen. Cruz describes is selfish, shallow and incapable of change. This person is a financial and an emotional dead beat to his family. My take on Cruz’s point is that he expects Obama to deliver disappointment because that's what dead beat dads always do. Thanks for sharing this point.

Just yesterday I looked at the calendar and thought, "wait, wasn't Obama supposed to visit this month?" Part of me never believed it would actually happen but I still find myself disappointed.
